2023

For every dollar spent on school-aged students in Vermont, $0.13 was spent on infants and toddlers, and $0.36 on preschool-aged children.

 

 

Vermont invested over $165 million in early care and education in 2023. Of these investments in birth to kindergarten-entry:

30% supported infants and toddlers, and 70% supported children aged three to kindergarten-entry.

37% came from federal sources, and 63% came from state funds.

ECE Spending by Program Type

Between 2022 and 2023, Vermont increased state-specific spending on children from birth through kindergarten-entry by more than $22 million.

 

In 2023, Vermont supported early care and education through dedicated programs such as the Child Care Subsidy Program, Parent Child Centers, and Vermont Universal Prekindergarten Education. Continued investments, such as Vermont Act 76, will be reflected in future reports.
